Selene Quarterly Magazine was a speculative romance, mystery, and alternate history periodical launched in 2017. All contributors received payment and a free digital copy (.epub, .pdf, or .mobi for Kindle™) of their issue. SQM became a semi-pro qualifying market according to the SFWA in 2019. In 2019, SQM also became an HWA and MWA qualifying market. Our online ISSN is 2637-7349. Our print ISSN is coming soon.

SUBMISSIONS
We published new issues in May, August, November, and February. We accepted unsolicited submissions from MARCH 1-15 11:59 EST every year. Anything submitted outside of that window was deleted unread. In 2021, we will publish our final volumes online. From January 2021 through April 2021, we will publish Volume 4 of Selene Quarterly Magazine (formerly Volume 6 of the now-defunct sister publication Helios Quarterly Magazine). From June 2021 through September 2021, we will publish Volume 5: Eclipse the Moon of Selene Quarterly Magazine celebrating five years of diverse speculative fiction as our last four issues! The ebook and print editions will release May, August, November, and February from 2021 through 2023.
SUBMIT
Selene Quarterly Magazine is permanently closed and the following guidelines are for archival purposes only.
Format using Shunn’s manuscript style. Track your submission using Duotrope, The Submission Grinder, and Ralan. Submit via HeyPublisher.
A short cover letter is required. Please include your legal name, pen name (if relevant), contact information, confirmation you can accept payment via PayPal or Xoom, recent publications/awards (if any), preferred contributor’s copy (.epub, .pdf, or .mobi for Kindle™), and a third person bio of 50-150 words. A photo may be requested.
Email submissions are deleted unread. We take 3-5 weeks to respond to submissions. If you haven’t received a response by then, please query. If you have any questions regarding your submission, email [email protected] (defunct). We cannot provide individual feedback on a consistent basis, so don’t be discouraged by our form rejection email. If you’re having trouble submitting, please consult our submissions guide (do not submit).
PAYMENT
POETRY: Any length paid $50USD per poem.
FICTION: 100-17,499 words paid $0.08USD per word for the first 1,000 words and $0.01USD after.
REPRINTS: Any length of poetry paid $15USD and 100-17,499 words of fiction paid $0.01USD per word.
RULES
- Translations are accepted
- Simultaneous submissions to other markets are accepted
- Only submit one submission in each category (one short story, one poem, one reprinted short story, and one reprinted poem) per person
RIGHTS
- Copyright remains with the author(s), poet(s), and artist(s) at all times
- Non-exclusive archival rights as long as the website(s) hosting the work are online
- First world electronic and print rights in English with exclusivity for 6 months from the date of publication
- If selected to be republished in an anthology in the future, payment in royalties is $0.01USD per word for all fiction
- If selected for a podcast or audiobook, payment is $0.01USD per word for non-exclusive electronic audio rights for all fiction
HARD SALES
- Excerpts out of a novel
- Poorly formatted and edited work
- Overtly racist, sexist, or violent work
ABSOLUTE NO
- Fanfiction of any kind
- Works above the word count
- Taboo elements (rape, including dubious consent, incest, pedophilia, etc.) for titillation, though some exceptions can be made on the grounds of artistic merit
